How to set up your TP-Link HB210 Pro

Your Coast Broadband TP-Link HB210 Pro arrives pre-configured. Connect the Ethernet cable to your connection box, power on and join Wi-Fi, here's the full walk-through.

The HB210 Pro comes set up for your Coast Broadband service out of the box. Wait for our SMS or email confirming your service is active, then follow the steps below. It takes about five minutes.

1. What this modem is for

We supply the HB210 Pro on every connection type except FTTN and FTTB (those get the TP-Link VX230v, which has the built-in modem they need). The HB210 Pro connects by Ethernet to your connection box, and the box you have depends on your technology (shown in your order confirmation email):

  • FTTP, HFC, Fixed Wireless and OptiComm: a connection box on the wall with a UNI-D port.
  • FTTC: a small nbn® connection box (the NCD) with a GATEWAY port.

2. Connect and power on

  1. Run the Ethernet cable from the HB210 Pro's WAN/Internet port to your connection box: UNI-D port 1 on an FTTP, HFC, Fixed Wireless or OptiComm box, or the GATEWAY port on an FTTC box (NCD).
  2. Plug in the power adaptor and switch it on.
  3. Give it 2 to 5 minutes to connect, the internet light should turn solid.
  4. Join Wi-Fi using the network name and password on the label underneath the unit.
Ports are labelled. If you're not sure which socket is which, the ports on the back of the HB210 are labelled, and the Wi-Fi details are printed on the base.
Pre-configured for you. Your HB210 arrives set up for Coast Broadband (we use IPoE), so there are no connection settings to enter, just cable it up and power on.

Add another unit for whole-home Wi-Fi (mesh)

The HB210 supports EasyMesh, so you can pair a second compatible unit to extend coverage across a larger or double-storey home. Both units share the same Wi-Fi name, so devices move between them automatically.

  1. Place the second unit in the same room as the HB210 to pair it, and power it on. Give it about 2 minutes to start up.
  2. Press the WPS button on the HB210 (your main unit).
  3. Within 2 minutes, press the WPS button on the second unit.
  4. Wait up to 2 minutes for them to pair, the second unit's signal/mesh light goes solid once connected.
  5. Move the second unit to roughly halfway between the main unit and the weak-signal area, then power it back on. It reconnects automatically.
Placement matters: the second unit needs a strong link back to the main one. If its mesh light is weak or red, move it a little closer.

If it won't come online

  • Confirm the Ethernet cable runs from the HB210 Pro's WAN/Internet port to the right port on your connection box (UNI-D 1, or GATEWAY on FTTC).
  • Wait the full 5 minutes on the first connection.
  • Try a power cycle, then check for an outage.
